A Hub for Learning and Loving - Our Toa Payoh Centre

Among all the things we know about early childhood education and child development is one important principle - The adult a child will

become is shaped by the totality of the child's experiences. It is the aggregate of everyday living that profoundly shapes how children grow and learn.

Therefore, the preschool your children goes to must embody the experiences that you want your children to absorb. We are very conscious of our role, our ability and of course our limitations to help you teach your child and maximize his or her potential. Here is how we do it.

1. We are aware of the power and growth of the brain in early childhood.

Here is how our FasTracKids program recognizes the important of this early childhood development window:

"Research has shown that the most important learning years are from 0-8, as the brain forms vital connections. When we are born, we have billions of brain cells. The minute we start receiving stimuli, such as the light our eyes see, the sounds we hear, and what we touch, the brain begins to form connections... The stronger and wider we can make those connections between the ages of 0-8, the larger the platform for our capacity for learning."

Our programs are specially selected and individually experienced by our own children to benefit the brain of the early childhood. We have seen and liked the results ourselves.

2. We know that the amount of positive stimulation a child receives is directly related to behavioral and brain development. The key is positive stimulation.

Here is how our Little Neuro Tree program sees the importance of stimulation to a child's early childhood development:

"We build the fundamental skills that a child needs to develop to perform well in school and in life. The right hemisphere of the brain is actively stimulated when the activity presented is new, challenging or emotional. The activities in every session are well planned... and nurtures the child's brain through fun, meaningful and hands-on activities."

3. We know there are many different forms of learning. Learning includes a wide range of behaviors characterized by actively acquiring new knowledge and

skills. There must be unique and wide-ranging activities.

This is the reason why Little Neuro Tree and FasTracKids in Singapore at our Toa Payoh Centre come with different approaches both as a whole but also via different activities within each program. They also encourage the children to participate in their own learning in many different ways while guiding them through a proven scientific basis - the best of both worlds.

4. We recognize each child is unique and so is every parent.

Learning and memory are inextricably linked to emotions. Brain chemicals, called

neurotransmitters that are linked to emotion can help the brain to be more receptive to new information. This is why we make Genius Learning Hub a place of joyful learning and positive energy. Our teachers are suns of welcoming rays. We also engage meaningfully with each parent and child in their own special way and we are always looking for ways to improve in our contributions.

5. We practice daily the Seven Essentials in and out of the activity room and encourage them in parent-child interactions:

a. Encourage exploration with all the senses.

b. Mentor in basic skills, showing how things and people work.

c. Celebrate progress in things big and small, and for being a unique person.

d. Rehearse skills and extend them in new ways.

e. Protect from unwanted influences like teasing.

f. Communicate in words, songs, gestures and love.

g. Guide and limit behavior to the socially acceptable.
